About The Basic Skills Training
The 3rd Cohort starting on 3rd May 2023 will be ON-SITE and delivered at the four (4) active Community Centres – Maxuilili and Matongo Greenwell in Khomas and Oshana Regional Library and Ongwediva American Corner in Oshana through a partnership with UNESCO, CODEMAO, and City of Windhoek.
Also, the program structure and curricula have been revised and made more robust and exciting to meet the learning needs of beneficiaries. That is, this time we have added more in-demand digital skills that are guaranteed to make beneficiaries more job-ready upon graduation. The four (4) specializations are:
Content Writing, Digital Marketing, Graphics Design, WordPress Web Design.
This is in addition to the existing courses: Microsoft Digital Literacy Skills, Microsoft Office 365 tools, Entrepreneurship, and Soft Skills.
Simply select your preferred specialization during registration. But NOTE that selection priority will be given to applicants in Oshana and Khomas or those with demonstrable capacity to transport and accommodate themselves near the centers for the 4-week duration of the program.

The Grassroots Coding Basic Skills Training targets recent graduates and young professionals – unemployed and underemployed youth across Namibia – who need to develop relevant basic digital skills for in-demand jobs and master the work tools needed to be effective in today’s work environment.
How it will Work?
While previous cohorts in the Grassroots Coding program were held online, the current cohort starting May 3, 2023, will be delivered onsite at both Oshana School of Computing in Oshana and Maxuilili Community Center in Khomas region.
We invite young persons in Oshana and Khomas Regions who desire to develop relevant digital skills for in-demand jobs to apply.

Expected Benefit to Beneficieries!
At the end of the Basic Skills Training, successful graduates will expect to:
- Acquire knowledge and basic digital skills to work effectively in today’s work environment.
- Acquire Completion Certificates from Microsoft as the first proof of proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Develop market-relevant digital skills
- Be linked to internship and employment interview opportunities with employer-partners upon the successful completion of the training.
- Gain access to a wide range of soft skills, employability, and entrepreneurship training that will all combine to increase the employability and work readiness of successful program graduates.
Structure of the Training
Due to COVID-19 induced restrictions, the Coding for Employment Basic Skills Training was moved online and has completed 2 successful cohorts to date.
With the resumption of public education by the government, we are pleased to resume the on-site training. That is, the 3rd cohort will hold on-site at Oshana School of Computing and Maxuilili Community Center, starting on 3rd May 2023.
The training will run for 5 weeks. 4 weeks on-site and 1 week online, as follows:
The Digital Literacy course is a General Course that is compulsory for all Grassroots Coding BasicSkillsTraining Beneficiaries and it is designed to help beneficiaries master the tools for working in the modern work environment. It will run for the first week of the program and cover courses such as Digital Literacy 2019, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Office 101, Microsoft 365: Word, Microsoft 365: Excel, Microsoft 365: PowerPoint, and Microsoft 365: Outlook.
Soft Skills and Entrepreneurship training will be cross-cutting to help beneficiaries develop the soft skills required for work in today’s workplace as well as develop entrepreneurial thinking skills. The scope will bother on ideation, critical thinking, and problem-solving, teamwork, crisis management, how to ace job applications and interviews, etc. This will be taught in the 5th week and online.
Finally, the program will conclude with Individual and Team Projects to gauge beneficiaries’ proficiency level and demonstrate learning over the 5 weeks’ duration.
Upon completion of the training, some of the best graduating beneficiaries will be recommended for Jobs with organizations looking towards recruiting people with relevant skills.

Specializations
Digital Marketing
The Digital Marketing specialization will cover topics such as Social Media Marketing SEO Optimization, Email Communication and Marketing, Digital Marketing Strategy, Content Marketing, Social Media Management, Analytics, and Reporting, etc.
The Digital Marketing specialization in the Grassroots Coding program is for young professionals who seek to launch and advance a career in digital marketing.
Web Development
The Web Development specialization will cover topics such as Website design with WordPress, Website Management and Maintenance, etc.
Graphic Design
The Graphic Design specialization will cover topics such as Introduction to Graphic Design, Design Basics, Typography and Color, Design Thinking, Design Elements, Logo and assorted Designs, use of Photoshop, Illustrator and other design software, etc.
Content Writing
The Content Writing specialization will cover topics such as Effective Communication, Mechanics of Writing, Understanding your Audience, Writing Principles and Guides, Blog and Article Writing, Web Content Writing, Technical Writing, Creative Writing, Copywriting, etc.
